For Mom and Dad

I used to think I could walk between the raindrops Then the drizzle turned to a flood I used to think I was invincible Then I realized I was standing in mud Walking through the puddles, I found a kindred soul Splashing down the road I saw a blooming rose We danced through the storm In the wet I found calm As we wisped through the rain I found an increase of love The dimmed sky, was not always dry But our love endured Our true love grew between the days It was helped by the rain and glowing rays Then one day a strong storm brewed And I was threatened to be separated from you My anger was kindled at the sky How could it make me feel like I would die? The highs and lows of northwest weather Burdened our hearts and I wanted to surrender I needed you and hoped you needed me We lived in this darkened state for what seemed like an eternity One storm after another, made me worry I’d lose you But you stuck by my side and protected me through the new Then one day the phone rang Sopping we answered A blessing from heaven A glimmer of hope Though some sun shined through the clouds It seemed, neck deep in water we’d be found But trusting in each other and what we knew to be right We moved forward toward the light Our hearts, in joy and fear, felt they'd burst And we dove in head first Before we held our breath to swim onward I whispered that I’d love you through I used to think I could walk between raindrops But I would much rather be with you
